J. Gonzo is a Chicano artist who currently resides in Mesa, AZ. Born and raised in Cypress, CA, Gonz attended the Orange County High School of the Arts’ Visual Art program and, after moving to Arizona, earned a degree in Visual Communications. He completed a tattoo apprenticeship in Mesa and tattooed full-time for several years until his graphic design and illustration career took flight - working full-time as well as freelancing for several of the top advertising agencies in the Phoenix area. Later, Gonzo worked in-house as the Senior Art Director for McFarlane Toys/Todd McFarlane Productions. After having worked his way to Creative Director for an advertising agency, Gonzo left to freelance full-time and shift
After having worked his way to Creative Director for an advertising agency, Gonzo left to freelance full-time and shift his focus primarily to art, illustration and completing his Comic Book project - La Mano del Destino. Gonzo works in a traditional, Silver Age style and believes in the impact of idea over intense rendering.
