The STEM Action Center strives to make STEM Fest a meaningful, hands-on experience for students and adults; the team has worked to ensure that all exhibitors know that this is a hands-on event. Our primary goal is for all students to be engaged and learning about STEM, and its many applications and impacts.

Last year, we made a few changes to accommodate younger students and increase access, making it a bit of an experiment. The inclusion of elementary students and increasing capacity, while not a bad decision, did not work for numerous reasons. It overloaded our ability to facilitate optimal rotation and hindered students from fully immersing themselves and engaging in activities-the very purpose of this event. It also overtaxed our exhibitors, even though we did bring on additional partners in anticipation of more students.

We know what works to provide a fun, engaging and sane experience for everyone, and we will apply lessons learned from last year and return this event to the high-quality experience you have come to know.

Please contact us at stemfest@utah.gov to share ideas, concerns and provide feedback.

Student Information:

We are only accepting grades 4-10 this year. We strongly recommend that all students and chaperones bring a smart device.

Families and younger students are welcome to attend STEM Fest Public Night on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, from 6-8 p.m.
Students with special needs are invited to attend from 4-6 p.m. The event center and exhibitor tables will be open and available. For more information or special accommodations, please email: stemfest@utah.gov

Available Attendance Dates:

  • Tuesday, October 23, 2018
  • Wednesday, October 24, 2018
*We are enforcing a strict policy on 2-hour time frames during which your students can attend. This will allow us to have appropriate crowd controls in place and will help us to facilitate optimal rotation of students for more hands-on engagement. Colored wristbands will be used and provided to you and your students upon arrival. Once your 2-hour time frame has ended, your students will be asked to exit the Expo Center and board your buses. Your school will need to determine if you would like your students to eat lunch before or after your allotted time frame.

Important Bus Scholarship Information:

The STEM Action Center DOES NOT provide full bus scholarships. Reimbursement will be issued after the event. Complete the post-event survey which will include a link to submit your bus scholarship request. Please note that proof of purchase (i.e. bus order form, receipt, invoice, etc.) will be required upon submission. Please designate one person to oversee its submission to avoid duplicate requests. Your school/district will need to pay a portion of the expense to attend.

The STEM Action Center will offer bus reimbursements accordingly:

  • 0-75 miles (round trip) $75/each bus
  • 76-149 miles (round trip) $150/each bus
  • 150 miles (round trip) $300/each bus
