Lupe Ruiz Flores

Author Lupe Ruiz-Flores has had six bilingual picture books published by Arte Público Press. She is the Regional Advisor for the Texas Southwest chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI), a member of the Writers’ League of Texas, the Author’s Guild,and the Texas Library Association (TLA).

Her essays, Péinate: Hair Battles Between Latina Mothers & Their Daughters, and Latina Authors and Their Muses, have been published in anthologies. Her poems, and short stories have been published in POCKETS magazine, Guideposts, SCBWI Bulletin, San Antonio’s VIA Poetry on the Move, Borderlands, and 2018 Texas Poetry Calendar. She has been a featured author at the San Antonio Book Festival, the Texas Book Festival, and has participated in Reading Rock Stars, a hands-on literacy initiative that sends nationally recognized authors into Title I schools in Texas to inspire young readers to read and write more, sending them home with owning their very own book. 
She recently won the 2018 SCBWI Work-in-Progress Award for her (in verse) multi-cultural middle-grade manuscript, Soledad Strikes Back. Lupe lives in San Antonio, Texas, but has also lived in Bangkok, Thailand and Okinawa, Japan.
