Claire Wemyss

Claire Wemyss (she/they, pronounced weems) is a passionate student of messer and movement, as well as a coach to adults and youth. Coming from a play-based profession and trained at Valkyrie Western Martial Arts Assembly, Claire uses improvisation, imagination, and irreverence as her core themes in teaching. With a mixed background of dance, yoga, LARP, SCA Heavy Combat, HEMA, and Escrima, she founded Kunst des Funklens, a small Vancouver-based club, with Jon Mills in 2018 to create space to study the German tradition in a queer-affirming learning culture. Wemyss has been an instructor and organizer at the Big Gay Sword Day/Year event series and has taught workshops in multiple cities. When not playing with swords, she loves singing, sewing, and beach fires.
