While HawaiiCon 2019 Guest of Honor Andre Bormanis began his career with degrees in Physics and Science, Technology & Public Policy, he is best known for his work bringing scientific and policy ideas into science fiction. Well known for his long-running relationship with Star Trek, Andre served as the science consultant on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. He wrote a number of episodes of the Voyager series, became a writer and producer on the Enterprise series, and served as science/technical advisor on two of the Next Generation films. Andre currently serves as Science Consultant, Producer, and Writer on The Orville and as the Director of Scientific Research and as a Producer for Cosmos. Never leaving hard science behind, Andre has written astronomy and space science articles for Ad Astra, The Journal of Materials, The Planetary Report, Sky & Telescope, SkyWatch, Space News, and Mercury magazine. He is also the author of Star Trek: Science Logs. Andre’s career epitomizes the fusion of science, technology, and the arts that HawaiiCon supports in its STEAM education projects, and we are honored to be his host at HawaiiCon 2019.
