Carl Weintraub

Appearing Fri,Sat,Sun

Parents and educators – another reason for you to bring the kids, and why RPCC isn’t just another “comic con”! Carl Weintraub is recognizable from decades of movies (Air Force One, Beverly Hills Cop, and Oliver & Company) and TV (Days of Our Lives, Cagney & Lacey, and Dads.) But we are most excited to introduce him to Reno fans as the artistic director of We Tell Stories, a story-type theatre company that has been performing across America since 1981, with a non-profit mission much like our own Pop Culture Classroom.

Carl began his professional acting career at The Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in 1974. A graduate of U.C.L.A., Carl studied acting and improvisation with Lou Palter and has performed at such theatres as The Mark Taper Forum, and the L.A. Theatre center. He was the first recipient of the Los Angeles PASA Award for life achievement in professional artistry in schools and was the first actual artist (as opposed to educator) ever to receive the Los Angeles Music Center’s Bravo Award for achievement in the arts education.

In parallel lives Carl has been a probation officer and a social worker, a mushroom farmer and a mason. He's taught school, cleaned latrines, played guitar and sung the blues in bars for money. Some say he passed through the town of Hamlin once, but that’s just gossip. His own children are aged 30, 40, 47 and 50 with 5 grand-kids. He's broken his back three times and his nose five. He has some good stories to tell.
