Mercedes Herreras Martinez is a space-systems engineer at NASA's Ames Research Center and currently the Risk Manager and Technical Interchange Lead Mission System Engineer on NASA VIPER mission, a lunar rover aiming to look for water on the Moon. Previously, she worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she helped design a CubeSat and helped develop a magnetometer to study Jupiter's moon Europa. Mercedes speaks Catalan, Spanish, English and French fluently in addition to knowing Russian. She studied aerospace engineering in college and graduate school. In college, she also was a regional champion in the 800-meter dash in track and field, and now enjoys a variety of sports from surfing, to snowboarding to spearfishing. And she loves her motorcycle! Mercedes loves playing the piano and the guitar.
