I have always been interested in art. But throughout school, I lacked one very important ingredient – confidence: I enjoyed creating but hated showing anyone my finished work.

Fast forward to May 2012. Out of work after helping a friend with a failed startup, I was surfing the internet and found all sorts of sites featuring papier mâché sculptures. I was amazed at how much money they were asking. I thought, I can make that, not knowing the first thing about the medium. But it seemed perfect since it was inexpensive, and money was tight. Liking creepy things, I thought of a mummy. One month and several attempts later, I finished the mummy. Impressed with what I had created, I continued sculpting, with each piece well-received by friends and family.

Once I had completed a few sculptures, I wanted a website to sell them. My site needed a name but all the mundane ones were taken, and that was driving me crazy. As I’m left-handed and stay up into the wee hours with my sculptures, naming and actually talking to them, it felt like time for me to be committed. Thus, Left Hand Asylum was born.

Soon after, I showed my art at a craft fair. Although the event was small, I made more money than I had expected and, more importantly, realized I enjoyed meeting my fans face to face.

I continue to experiment with different media, having branched out from papier mâché to organic clay and finally to polymer clay, as well as graphic and jewelry design.

Upcycling and functionality are important to me, so I most enjoy creating the unique boxes, bottles, and jars of the My Monsters line.

I hope everyone enjoys them, too, and finds their own monster to take home.
