Tom and Mary Bierbaum

Tom and Mary Bierbaum will be appearing on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at booth 509. Tom and Mary Bierbaum are a husband-and-wife writing team, known for their work on The Legion of Super-Heroes, Legionnaires, and The Heckler.

A big part of Legion fandom, the Bierbaum became close with Keith Giffen as a sounding board for his ideas about the Legion during his run on the book in the early 80’s. Giffen was impressed by the duo’s ideas and brought them in as scripters for his work on T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents in 1984.

Following the departure of Paul Levitz from writing the Legion of Super-Heroes, Keith Giffen and the Bierbaums took over. Giffen and the Bierbaums co-wrote the first 36 issues of Legion of Super-Heroes vol. 4 (The Five Years Later storyline). Following Giffen’s departure from the book, the Bierbaums wrote issues 37-50 of the title. They wrote the first 15 issues of Legionnaires, and also worked with Giffen on The Heckler.

After their DC work, the Bierbaums went on to write various titles for Image Comics, including Supreme, SuperPatriot, Youngblood: Strikefile, and Star, as well as Xena: Warrior Princess and Jurassic Park for Topps Comics. Most recently, they worked on Wonderlanders for Oktomica and Stormquest for Blue Line Pro Comics.
