Jordyn King

Jordyn King is a 23 year old poet who hails from Cambridge, MA. They moved to Atlanta in 2013 to pursue a creative writing degree at Emory University and started performing in local poetry scenes, most notably at Java Monkey Speaks in Decatur, a weekly open mic hosted by internationally renowned poet, Theresa Davis. Since moving to Atlanta, Jordyn has published poetry chapbooks, winning Emory's Excellence in LGBTQ Writing award for their first book, and placing second in the Arts, Atlanta, Activism performance showcase. Jordyn has been a featured poet at Java Speaks, where they first started performing in Atlanta, and with the Queerly Beloved Revue, where their words struck a chord with many people. Jordyn has also been a Finalist for both the Art Amok Slam Team, placing 6th overall, as well as the Java Slam Team. Their second poetry chapbook, With Visionary Intent, is a more cohesive poetic concept that really showcases Jordyn's voice, taking an afro-futurist approach at the intersectionality between Blackness and Queerness. Jordyn is currently a full-time poet.
