Ande Parks

Acclaimed Comics Creator

Ande Parks has inked comics for every major American publisher. He’s best known for his run on Green Arrow, with frequent collaborator Phil Hester and writers Kevin Smith, Brad Meltzer and Judd Winick. He has recently inked Slash & Burn for Vertigo Comics, and Mother Panic for DC’s Young Animal imprint.

As a writer, Parks has recently written Seduction of the Innocent, a 4-part mini-series for Dynamite Entertainment.

He penned three original graphic novels for Oni Press. His latest, Ciudad, came out in December of 2014. It was created with Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Ande has also written The Lone Ranger and Green Hornet for Dynamite.

He has written the historical fiction graphic novels Union Station and Capote in Kansas. The latter was recognized as a Notable Book by the state of Kansas- the first graphic novel to win such an honor.

Comic Book Resources asked Ande Parks about he enjoyed writing with his Ciudad collaborators Joe and Anthony Russo:

It was really a dream experience. Joe and Anthony were very generous. They not only let me do my own thing with this idea that they had come up with, but they were encouraging at every step.

Assuming the film version of Ciudad gets made at some point, which I certainly hope happens, it will be very interesting for people to see how the two different forms of the story developed. It’s the same story, but handled in very different ways. I think each stands on its own.

As far as I know, this is a unique situation. The book isn’t an adaptation of a movie or a screenplay. I think you can relate the graphic novel and the screenplay to twins who were separated at birth. They have the same DNA, but they’ve been raised by different people and so have become very different things.
