Jeffrey Moy

Comic artist

Born and raised in the Chicagoland area on a healthy diet of comics and science-fiction, it only seemed right Jeffrey Moy would strive to make his mark in storytelling.

Throughout high school, his storytelling would always be accompanied by pictures. Having a taste of what the future held, Moy attended Northern Illinois University, where he earned a bachelor of fine arts in illustration.

After drawing a few books for Comico, someone put Moy in touch with an editor giving him a chance to try out at DC Comics for Legionnaires. After proving himself and showing potential for growing as an artist and professional, Moy was offered Legionnaires once it rebooted with the Zero Hour Event.

What followed was an incredible run, producing 22 penciled pages every month between 1994 and 1999.

As the comic industry looked to cut back on the number of titles they produced, Moy was able to work on another fanboy project: Star Trek. Wildstorm had been commissioned with the property, and to kick off the line of books, the publisher started with Star Trek: Voyager: False Colors. This was followed up by a second chance to work with the Voyager crew on an adaptation of the first-person shooter Star Trek: Voyager: Elite Force, which would lead Moy to the next step of his career.

Elite Force was developed by Raven Software in Madison, Wisconsin, where a friend and instructor from Northern Illinois University was working as a concept and texture artist. There were occasional visits to Madison and the studio, but now Moy was able to look inside the making of a game, since the book had to adapt the story, characters and environments, as well as a gameplay Easter egg.

After finishing the adaptation and looking for full employment, Moy inquired about a position at Raven, and was hired as a concept and texture artist.

Over the next decade, Moy produced hundreds, it not thousands, of drawings of concepts and cinematic storyboards for what was a checklist of dream properties to work on. They included Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, X-Men Legends, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Singularity and Call of Duty: Black Ops.

After a reduction in teams at Raven, Moy continues to work and live in Madison for various game companies and other freelance jobs. He spent a year at Human Head Studios working on outsourced content for Trion’s massively multiplayer online shooter Defiance, which also was based on a Syfy television show.

He also returned to comics with some old favorites like a Star Trek/Legion of Superheroes crossover for IDW Publishing.
