Alan Tudyk

Actor Alan Tudyk has a habit of making memorable television and films even more memorable with his wit, charm, voice work, and hilarious, off-beat performances. A veteran of more than two dozen television shows and thirty features, Tudyk’s talents traverse drama and comedy, across live-action, animated projects and video games with ease.

After starring in the hit Warner Bros Jackie Robinson biopic 42 last spring, Tudyk was cast in two highly anticipated films: Disney’s animated feature Frozen and the Kristin Wiig vehicle Welcome to Me.

After a starring turn in the hit Disney animated film Wreck-It Ralph – which garnered him an Annie Award for his work as ‘King Candy’ – Tudyk returned to the recording booth this summer to voice the ‘Duke of Weselton’ in Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen. The comedy-adventure set in the icy kingdom of Arendelle also features the voice work of Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff was a box-office smash and is currently the fifth highest grossing film of all time.

Tudyk also wrapped on Welcome to Me, the comedy from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions. The film stars Kristin Wiig as a woman with borderline personality disorder who wins the lottery and buys her own cable access show in her obsession for fame, alienating her friends and family along the way. Welcome to Me also stars Ferrell, Tim Robbins, Wes Bentley, and Salt Lake Comic Con alumni James Marsden.

Last fall, Tudyk appeared in the critically-acclaimed ABC single-camera comedy Suburgatory. In the series about a single father (Jeremy Sisto) who moves from big city Manhattan to the suburbs with his daughter – much to her chagrin – Tudyk plays ‘Noah Werner,’ Sisto’s dentist best friend who helps him acclimate to ‘burb’ culture. The show will be entering its third season, airing after “Modern Family” on Wednesday nights at 9:30pm.

Last summer saw Tudyk reprising his role as ‘Pastor Veal’ on the Netflix revival of the critically-acclaimed comedy Arrested Development. Tudyk first appeared in season two of the Emmy-winning cult single-cam and recurred across two shows during the 15-episode relaunch.

In 2012, Tudyk starred in the well-received Warner Bros film 42, the story about Jackie Robinson, the first African-American to play in American major league baseball. In the biopic that centered on the first two years of Robinson’s life after he signs with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, Tudyk played ‘Ben Chapman,’ a former player turned manager adamantly opposed to Robinson’s entry into the league.

“’Chapman’ was a great ballplayer, but was also an unapologetic racist with a temper,” Tudyk shared. “He was notorious for yelling obscenities at Robinson and ordering his pitchers to bean him; it was a not-nice role to play.” The ensemble film also stars Harrison Ford as pioneering Dodger executive ‘Branch Rickey.’ Directed by Brian Helgeland, 42 is currently available on Blu-ray and DVD.

In January 2013, Tudyk won an Annie Award for his outstanding voice work playing ‘King Candy’ opposite John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman in the hit Disney animated film Wreck-It Ralph. Ralph tells the story about a video game villain who wants to be a hero and sets out on a quest to fulfill his dream, but ends up wreaking havoc upon the entire arcade where he lives. The film was nominated for a 10 total Annie Awards, as well as an Oscar and Golden Globe for ‘Best Animated Feature,’ and is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.

An actor known for his great range and creating hilarious characters, Tudyk first broke out as a hyper-paranoid mental patient opposite Robin Williams in Patch Adams. He went on to create scene-stealing roles in several other features including 28 Days, A Knight’s Tale, Death at a Funeral, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Knocked Up, and Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil. His additional film credits include Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, 3:10 to Yuma, I, Robot, Serenity, Wonder Boys, RX, and Beautiful Boy.

Tudyk garnered a cult following as a member of Joss Whedon’s short-lived sci-fi series Firefly, which was cut short after one season but popular enough to warrant a follow-up feature film, Serenity. Tudyk starred as the playful, easy-going ‘Hoban “Wash” Washburne,’ and reunited with Whedon again for the first season of his series Dollhouse. His other TV credits include Arrested Development, Strangers with Candy, V, Into the West, and CSI among others.

A highly talented voice actor, Tudyk’s many VO credits include: Ice Age; Ice Age 2: The Meltdown; Ice Age 4: Continental Drift; Alvin and the Chipmonks: Chipwrecked; Robot Chicken; Young Justice; The Life & Times of Tim; Good Vibes; Batman: The Brave and the Bold; Family Guy and American Dad. Tudyk also appeared as characters in the hit video games Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST.

Tudyk attended the prestigious Juilliard Conservatory in New York, and has starred on Broadway opposite Kristin Chenoweth in “Epic Proportions,” played ‘Lancelot’ with the original cast in Monty Python’s “Spamalot,” and the lead role of ‘Peter’ in “Prelude to a Kiss” opposite John Mahoney.

Tudyk grew up in Plano, Texas and currently lives in Los Angeles. He has a modest taxidermy collection and enjoys DIY home improvement and construction projects. He’s particularly proud of some of his unique home décor, like his wall of vintage yardsticks. Tudyk claims he learned to build at drama school, so he’s not a master carpenter, and jokes that his projects “usually only last three months or so, about the length of a stage production.” He lives with his two dogs, Raisin (a rescue) and Aunt Clara (a “cock-a-poo” cocker spaniel/poodle mix), owns a motorcycle, and likes playing guitar and writing original “little crappy songs!”
