Danny Glover

Danny Glover is an American actor, producer, director and humanitarian best known for his roles in the Lethal Weapon franchise, The Color Purple, Predator 2, Saw, and Angels in the Outfield. He made his big-screen debut in 1979 and has established himself as a well-beloved actor for the past 35 years.

Glover’s illustrious acting career began on stage at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, California, where he grew up. He also gained valuable acting experience by training at the nearby Shelton Actors Lab. With stage acting forming such an important foundation of his life, he found a way to give back by co-founding Los Angeles’ Robey Theater Company in 1994.

Glover transitioned into acting on television and in movies in 1979. Since then, he has added over 150 credits to his name and has starred in many memorable roles. He is best known for his role as Detective Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon film franchise. He also prominently appeared in two Disney films in the mid-1990s – he played ornery baseball manager George Knox in 1994’s Angels in the Outfield and starred as Captain Sam Cahill in Operation Dumbo Drop in 1995.

His other notable movie roles include appearances in Dreamgirls, Silverado and The Royal Tenenbaums. He has also provided the voices for animated characters like Jethro in The Prince of Egypt, Barbatus in Antz and Miles the Mule in Barnyard, among others.

Glover has received four Emmy nominations for his work on television, including a nomination for “Outstanding Lead Actor” for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in the 1987 TV movie Mandela.

Among many other accolades, Glover is recognized for his enthusiastic work as a humanitarian and activist. He has also received several honorary degrees from universities across the country, including an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree from Utah State University, which he was presented in 2010 after giving the university’s commencement address.
