Born in New Jersey and raised in San Jose, California, Frank began his professional career at Continuity Studios in New York (1976), a commercial art studio managed by comic book veterans Neal Adams and Dick Giordano. The following year, he returned to California to open an art studio of his own and he has worked as a freelance illustrator and art director ever since.
Over the years, Frank’s artwork has been present on the collector’s market and in a number of gallery shows. His first fantasy-themed limited edition art prints and portfolios were published by Schanes & Schanes (including Land of Shadows and the Seven Dreams of Sinbad). In the mid-eighties, Frank was a regular cover artist for Marvel Comics and eventually partnered with old friend Carl Potts (at Marvel’s creator-owned Epic division) to create The Alien Legion comic series along with writer Alan Zelenetz. The Alien Legion property has had a loyal fan following and a successful run in a variety of different media. It is currently being shopped as a major motion picture.
Frank has worked extensively both in the fine art market and the entertainment field for over 40 years now. In his commercial endeavors, he has worked as a production artist, designer, art director, writer, editor and creative director. Venturing from the freelance world in 1994, Frank took a position as an art director at Rocket Science Games where he worked on PC game versions of comic titles such as Mark Shultz’s Cadillacs & Dinosaurs. He subsequently founded and directed the design and illustration focused Lightsource Studios from 1996 through 2014. Lightsource clientele included Dreamworks, Disney, LucasArts, Marvel Comics, Microsoft, Yahoo!, Electronic Arts, LeapFrog, Mattel, and Universal Studios among many others.
Currently, Frank has turned yet another favorite hobby into a business with POP DADDY VINTAGE, a collectibles shop based in the Willow Glen area of San Jose. http://popdaddyvintage.com/ Pop Daddy buys and sells vintage toys, art, advertising, novelties, books & magazines and will have a colorful booth at SVCC again this year.
