Lucky Yates

Born and raised in Detroit, Lucky Yates graduated from Wayne State University with a B.F.A. in acting before heading off into the world to seek wealth and fame. After finding neither, he became a puppeteer in Atlanta at The Center for Puppetry Arts. He then joined the Improv Ensemble at Dad’s Garage Theatre, where he has been performing live improvisational comedy every week, both with puppets and without. Since 2000, he has also been the curator of Atlanta’s late-night Puppet Slams and created a Saturday morning improvised children’s show that has inspired tens of children to misbehave.
Yates was a puppeteer in the feature film Elmo in Grouchland, appeared on a couple local Atlanta PBS shows, and recently “shook a dollie” for the upcoming Bobcat Goldthwait series Myths and Monsters. Spinning puppets into a not-so-lucrative television gig, he was also a regular cast member on the show Good Eats with his pal Alton Brown, which has a follow-up version in the works. Yates also voiced an “Xtacle” on the animated series Frisky Dingo for Adam Reed and Matt Thompson.
Yates writes, directs, acts, does voice overs and knows his way around a kitchen, but mostly, he just hangs out with his dog Abe Jackson all day, thinking up stupid shows nobody wants to see. Or do they…?
