Born in London, Colin was raised and educated in Rochdale and Manchester, where he trained as a solicitor before becoming an actor.
Plays include ‘Private Lives’, ‘Born in the Gardens’, ‘Privates on Parade’, ‘Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune’, ‘Death and the Maiden’, the world stage premiere of ‘Kind Hearts and Coronets’ (as the entire d’Ascoyne family, ‘Dracula’ (as Van Helsing), also ‘Strangers on a Train’, ‘Bedroom Farce’, ‘She Stoops to Conquer’ “Noises Off” ‘The Final Test’ and ‘Woman in White’. He played Magwitch in the musical ‘Great Expectations’ and Sir Joseph Porter KCB in ‘HMS Pinafore’.

TV includes ‘Roads to Freedom’, ‘Cousin Bette’, ‘War and Peace’, ‘The Edwardians’, ‘Swallows and Amazons Forever’, ‘Jonathan Creek’, ‘ A Dance to the Music of Time’, ‘The Knock’, ‘The Waiting Time’, ‘Kingdom’ and ‘Hustle’. He was Paul Merroney in ‘The Brothers’ and the sixth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’.

Films include ‘Dangerous Davies’, ‘The Harpist’, ‘The Asylum’, ‘Les Trois Mousquetaires’.

He has written a weekly newspaper column for 19 years, now published as anthologies ‘Look Who’s Talking’ and ‘Second Thoughts’. ‘Gallimaufry’, his book of short stories, was published in 2012.
