JAKE “THE SNAKE” ROBERTS, best known for his work with the World Wrestling Federation in the eighties and nineties, is a Hall of Fame wrestler whose intense promos, dark charisma, DDT finishing move, and ringside allies, snakes Damien, and later Lucifer, made him a legend of the squared circle.

Beginning his career in the 70s in and around Louisiana, Roberts made his name with Mid-South Wrestling, Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, and Georgia Championship Wrestling, feuding with Junkyard Dog and Ron Garvin, and becoming a member of the infamous Legion of Doom. He joined World Championship Wrestling in 1984, feuding with the Von Erichs, before returning to Mid-South Wrestling in 1985.

The Snake’s career with the WWF began in 1986, competing at WrestleMania 2 in the same year, and beginning a long standing rivalry with Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. Despite initially beginning as a heel and set up as a villain against “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan, Roberts popularity allowed him to turn face and begin feuds with The Honky Tonk Man, “Ravishing” Rick Rude, Andre the Giant, Ted DiBiase “The Million Dollar Man”, The Ultimate Warrior, and Macho Man once again.

Jake joined WCW in 1992 and aligned himself with Cactus Jack and The Barbarian to feud against Sting and Nikita Koloff. He returned to the WWF in 1996 at the Royal Rumble, with his new gimmick being a preacher and a snake named Revelations. During this second tenure with the company, he feuded with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, resulting in the birth of Austin’s famous catchphrase, “Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your a$%!”

Roberts was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014 by his friend “Diamond” Dallas Page.
