The history of Quidditch is unlike any other popular sport, especially here in the U.S. While it has grown separate from the fictional game, much of Rowling’s original work is deeply embedded in its foundation. From gender equality, in the fan named Title 9 ¾, to its supportive roots founded in its origins in a small, tight-knit community, Quidditch is changing the way we participate in sports, as both athletes and spectators. Unbeknownst to those on the edges, Salt Lake City has its own rich history in the sport, which culminated in 2016 in the city joining the U.S. Major League Quidditch division with the Salt Lake Hive. We will dive into the sport's roots, its international presence, and how those have affected it in unique ways, foreign to traditional physical recreation.
