Rowling’s most infamous work, the Harry Potter series, is rife with themes of equality and activism. In 2005, Andrew Slack and the DeGeorge brothers of Harry and the Potters fame founded the Harry Potter Alliance with those themes in mind, tapping into a widespread fan base already keyed into these issues through the fame of the books. The Potter series continues to inspire passionate discussion and action among its avid fans. This will be a discussion on how the work has inspired people to become more politically and compassionately involved and what it teaches us about being effective activists.
