This presentation will take you through a journey to see how critical it is to understand the process of observing light falling on form in creating realistic 2D works of art. This process is more than just developing the skills of painting and drawing, it is also about what I call "learning how to 'see.'" Comparisons will be made between rendering from observation and pure imagination, and different individual artistic interpretations. Topics will include: aspects of “light logic” (light and shadow, value, color, halftones, reflected light), collecting objects and costumes for creating reference material, finding models, lighting models and objects, and options for basic affordable lighting equipment.
