This panel will look at how comic books and Hip-Hop have grown from modest origins to achieve worldwide influence, how they have intersected and blended, and how they have incorporated, encompassed, and inspired other aspects of everyday life - including fashion, graffiti/street art, dance, animation...among other related expressive forms. The relationship between hip-hop and comics has since become two-sided, the question remains: why has superhero culture slowly-but-steadily weaved its way into the overall schema of hip-hop, and vice versa? This panelists will discuss the links between these, their trajectories, and their implications on diversity in representation in pop culture centered spaces.
