What do car drifting memes, gyaru fashion, Eurobeat, and anime have in common? From Japanese nightclubs to the soundtracks of hit anime like Initial D, to fashion magazines, join SHIBUYA69 and learn everything you want to know about ParaPara dancing! ParaPara is a form of synchronized dance that originated in Japanese nightclubs in the late 80’s. Nightclubs nationwide would choreograph official routines to HI-NRG and Eurobeat music as it was being released. Routines would be taught in person or shared by VHS tape, and eventually commercially sold in stores. The trend eventually spread to arcades through Konami’s ParaPara Paradise game franchise, which still has a presence at American anime and gaming conventions! Since 2016, SHIBUYA69 has been pouring a decade of enthusiasm into keeping parapara alive through organizing events and cultivating a strong internet community. ParaPara Panel Paradise will take you through the history, pop culture cameos, and a dance lesson for a well-rounded introduction to ParaPara!
