A look at how the natural environment is represented in anime and how it reflects Japanese culture. From overt messages about conservation and the spiritual connection to nature, to indirect messages about how people use and interact with the world around them. A wide range of anime show how people interact with the environment and, consciously or subconsciously, convey messages about our place in the natural world. This looks into what those messages are and how Japanese culture and values shaped those messages.
