In the 1960s, the Swiss watch industry was the undisputed king of timekeeping all around the world. By the 1980s, the Swiss watch industry was in deep crisis, with age-old companies going out of business and many others consolidating. All thanks to a tiny, cheap crystal called quartz and the Japanese watch companies that made the most of it. In this panel we will explore this story of how innovation not only disrupted and redefined an industry over a decade, but also how it profoundly changed people's lives across the world.
