Ever since its origins in the 1960s Japan’s idol scene has held an integral and sometimes controversial presence in Japanese pop culture as a whole. From Seiko Matsuda, Akina Nakamori, and the other stars of the golden age through the rise of groups such as AKB0048 and even the video game and anime characters of The iDOLM@STER and Love Live, idols have entertained millions of fans around the world with their songs and performances. This will be a presentation-type panel going through the history of the idol industry in Japan.
