Hello! We are a sibling team consisting of a Film Major/YouTuber (Garage Dwelling Frogs) and an Archaeologist. We have been reading comics since we were little and would love to give a presentation using our unique perspectives. Here is a short summary: "In 1938 Batman made his first appearance in Detective Comics #27; the crime fighting bat-detective would go on to have a massive influence on not only the comic book genre, but also film and television. Using classic and comic art techniques as well as gothic and industrial architecture, the set and production design in Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022) created a city that started decaying the night Batman’s parents were killed. Now without the hope of growth and renewal, the city that they left behind is Gotham. What I look to discuss is how artistic techniques, as well as movies such as Metropolis (1927) and paintings such as Nighthawks (1942), have all come together to tell the story of a people without hope, trapped in a fictional city whose decay will never cease."
