Workshop fee of $35. “First of all, we had to quit playing God,” (Big Book, p. 62). This insight by Bill W. is key to understanding the 12 Steps as a complete spiritual practice. Playing God, imagining the self as master of the universe capable of creating the reality you desire through sheer force of will, is the fundamental delusion from which almost all humanity suffers. Whether or not you have a recognized addiction, we are all addicted to this egoic-self and the madness it fosters. Our goal in this workshop is simple: to help you quit playing God. We do this in two ways: 1) exploring the 12 Steps outside the frame of addiction to reveal its power as a universal spiritual practice uniquely suited for our time; and 2) learning a variety of spiritual techniques drawn from many different religions that reveal new depths to 12 Step spirituality. Just to be clear: This is a workshop not a lecture; please come prepared to practice. This workshop is not a meeting, nor is it aimed at more conventional understandings of the 12 Steps. For those in Program, and for those not currently engaged in 12 Step work, this workshop will help you delve more deeply into the theory and practice of spiritual awakening, and provide you with additional tools upon which to draw in your quest for spiritual awakening. This workshop is based on Rabbi Rami’s Recovery as a Sacred Art. No prior understanding of or experience with the 12 Steps is necessary.
