There is a reason the second, fourth and sixth installments in the Star Trek franchise are considered the best of the series. That reason is Nicholas Meyer. Writer/Director/ Producer Nicholas Meyer surprised Hollywood in the 1970s with his new takes on old ideas like Sherlock Holmes in The Seven Percent Solution, or Jack the Ripper in the Time After Time. He frightened America in prime time with an authentic vision of nuclear war in The Day After. For the Star Trek films, Meyer is arguably responsible for the second genesis of the movie series after the controversial premier motion picture nearly killed the franchise. The panel will discuss Nicholas Meyer, his impact on film, television, and comics including and especially his contributions to Star Trek, and discuss what gives his style of writing, directing and producing such impact.
