Developing Mobile Augmented Reality (AR) for the masses.

Room 114

Saturday April 7, 2018 - 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Why is science fiction so important to science? Could we say science fiction writers are paving the way for future scientist? We start by looking at the link between imagination and reality by exploring how AR went from science fiction to becoming mainstream today. One of the main catalysts fueling the growth was Google Android and Apple iOS having AR frameworks shipping in their phones. By presenting some mind bending demos we show why mobile AR is considered the next big thing in tech. After building a solid understanding of the what and why we start diving into the how by explaining the technology and software used to build mobile AR apps on all three platforms. We will provide an overview of the functionality of ARKit (iOS), ARCore (Android) and AR game engines (Unreal/Unity). We end the session by doing an actual code review (a first in Comic Con history) of these platforms! The hope is that after attending this talk the audience would be excited about the technology and have a solid understanding of AR theory and development.
