Many shows, movies, and stories use constructed languages - or conlangs - to help establish the world as interesting and complex, and different from our own real world. How these conlangs are used can tell us a lot about the history and prestige of the culture in relation to the others around it. Using examples from Dragon Age, LOTR, Firefly, and other media and fandoms, this panel will give you the basic tools to start analyzing language use in your own fandoms, and the knowledge to create meaningful and significant language contact situations in your own fiction that show off your worldbuilding.
