Better Science Learning through Comics

Room 230A

Friday April 6, 2018 - 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Science tells a story, and stories can be told in many forms. One form that lends itself particularly well to teaching, understanding, and learning science is the comic. The two most common objections we hear about using comics in the science classroom are 1) science content is too complicated for comics and 2) there aren’t enough resources (time, materials, expertise) available to implement it. Our workshop will address these two misconceptions by providing examples of successful lessons in a variety of classrooms and subjects. We will show how comics can be utilized to improve student engagement and learning while keeping in mind all the practical considerations of classroom teaching. This is a workshop, so you will leave with your own comic creations!
