Diversity in Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Gaming and Comics from the Perspective of Black Creators

Room 370F

Sunday May 27, 2018 - 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm

With Marvel's "Black Panther" movie, DC's "Black Lightning" TV show, Marvel and Netflix's "Luke Cage" series and the "Black Women Magic Horror Anthology" of short stories written by black women, featuring black women characters (being released in 2018), this is a phenomenal year for black creators. Black authors, cosplayers, actors, podcasters, filmmakers, screen-writers, directors and comic book artists have been grinding away in the horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic genres for years without much recognition – until now! This panel will examine why representation matters, the history of blacks in these genres and how it affects the present, and the impact literature plays on the way we view black entertainment.
