The Geek's Guide to Literary Theory

Room 114

Sunday April 8, 2018 - 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Once upon a time, some English teacher probably tried to convince you of the "right" ways and "wrong" ways to read using terms such as "literature" and "theory." Lit theory is not about "right" or "wrong." It's like a wibbly wobbly group of lenses through which we view writing (or any piece of artistic experession) in order to gain a deeper understanding of the work. What's more, geek culture has already embraced and mastered several of these lenses. We just don't know the academic vocabulary. Join writer M. Todd Gallowglas and find out what lenses you already use as well as learn about other ways increase understanding and appreciation of all those books, movies, shows and comics you already love. For creators, you'll discover the various ways critics and fans will experience and discuss your art. Plus, after this panel, you'll sound hella smart at parties.
