Afternoon Keynote - Breaking Bad Leadership

Hamilton/Monon

Friday September 7, 2018 - 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Summary: Products, projects, teams and everything in between and around rely in some way on leadership. Countless books address the mechanics and theory behind corporate and team leadership. These books are great, but they offer little guidance to those who work on the teams and are neck-deep in organizational dysfunction—and have no idea what to do next. Simply put – the answers aren’t real enough. Without digestible answers the team finds itself in a vulnerable state likely to slip back into old practices—including bad waterfall, bad Scrum, and bad leadership. Ryan Ripley and Jessica Soroky help break this cycle by taking you through the common anti-patterns that emerge when broken practices are implemented in complex organizations. This is only made worse when teams and organization lack the necessary leadership to get through it. Ryan and Jessica explore why these things happen, and what we can do to “inspect and adapt” our way back to a healthy practice. At the center of these tips, ideas and lessons learned are a combination of the values we have as leaders and the values we uphold as agilists – Commitment, Responsibility, Focus, Choice, Openness, Respect, and Courage. Repairing these practices starts with embracing these values and understanding how to implement them. Learn how to take your teams to the next level.
