Plotting and Pacing a Short Story

Literary Room 3 (350C)

Saturday June 18, 2016 - 11:00 am to 11:50 am

Short fiction can be especially challenging for speculative writers, who are often tasked with depicting an entire other world alongside their characters, plot and theme. Many short stories, however, are more powerful than entire novels, and often writers work better under the constriction of word limits. Panelists will discuss how to thoroughly construct a secondary world, dynamic characters and a fully realized plot in less than 8,000 words, or less than 10 pages in a graphic novel.
