Timing, as they say, is everything, and when the rocket you are riding is having a catastrophic failure, you need to get away in a hurry. In early 2019, NASA will test out the launch escape system for the Orion Spacecraft. The test hardware is currently being built at the Johnson Space Center, and you can hear from the project team what it will take to safely get a crew away from disaster during launch.
