Japanese history has been shaped by its military actions. It remained a feudal, agrarian society and sometime empire until the last quarter of the 19th century when it sprinted into industrialism. In a few decades it made itself into one of the world's leading military powers which lead to the nation's downfall just a couple of decades after that. All these experiences still shape depictions of war and the military in anime. This panel will show how each of these stages and Japan's current post-military society are reflected in anime.
