Dr. Hankes will define addiction and explore if it meets criteria to qualify as a disease state. He will then compare addiction to other diseases. He will discuss its characteristics and illustrate chemical action in the brain. He will review the clinical ramifications of having a disease including cross tolerance and cross-dependency with other addictive drugs.
