Pour Some Sugar -- Granular Directors Workshop for VO

C162a

Saturday September 29, 2018 - 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm

Voice acting and dialogue do the most to engender affection between the player and the characters in a game. But sometimes, the simplest little parts of character’s vocal personality don’t ring true. Why is that? What is missing? Some of this involves psychology, some is pure technique. We’ll discuss things like: Can you laugh on cue? What do Dying Words sound like? Can you make a player cry? How do you cough? What’s the construction of a sneeze? We’ll talk about ways to help the director get to the heart and soul of a performance: Use hot descriptions, or talk about things to evoke memories to help your actor understand the intent of a character or the emotional connection they have with the player. Takeaway: The audience will have a new set of skills that help for directing some of the simple or difficult and most deeply satisfying parts of game VO.
