Take a deep breath, focus your mind, and draw your blade to make the perfect cut. Siljun Dobup is a form of iaido, which translates literally as “real sword training.” Developed by living master Jin K Seong, it is a new martial art with deep historical roots dedicated to the study of the katana. Training focuses on the drawing, cutting, and sheathing of the blade while executing proper technique. Most of the forms are practiced individually, and always emphasize safety and respect. Beginner Class Overview In the beginner iaido: Siljun Dobup class, students will practice the basics of the form, including proper drawing and re-sheathing of the blade. Students will learn how to execute a proper overhead cut, and will be introduced to the other cutting directions. The class will focus on basic mechanics, while maintaining zanshin, or a “remaining mind.” You should study iaido if… You are a mature student who is looking for a meditative, yet physically engaging martial art. You want to learn how to control yourself through perfection of physical and mental presence. You should try iaido if you like… The Kill Bill movies, stories about samurai, yoga, or other deep physical and mental conditioning activities.
