Migration and Fractured Borders

Programming 2 (Minoru D)

Saturday October 6, 2018 - 2:00 pm to 2:50 pm

As the number migrants from war, collapsing economies, and climate change increases, some governments are closing borders, building walls, or warehousing desperate people--sometimes for months or years--in refugee camps. Though Science Fiction has long probed the ramifications of exploring new frontiers, current politics give a greater impetus to the examination of many different types of borders, both external and internal. Three Aurora Award-winning/Aurora Award-nominated editors and authors whose works appear in Shades Among Us: Migration and Fractured Borders, discuss how real-world events shaped their thinking and inspiration for storytelling.
