Room 204

[Speakers: Jesse Vigil, Collin Kelly] While developing the Champions of the Earth tabletop RPG, designer Collin Kelly conspired with producer Jesse Vigil to create a heavily-produced audio drama/liveplay hybrid podcast for the game. As the format evolved, the show became a live beta for the system, and quickly developed a following, spinning out from the podcast into a Twitch miniseries and an alternate reality game embedded in the show. The cycle of the show improving the game and the game improving the show has paid dividends, with a growing audience for the show, and a lengthening mailing list of would-be-players eager for the book release. Spin-offs, forays into other media platforms, and even ancillary games might be in the cards, but none of it happened by accident. As veteran creators in the world of games, comics, film, and new media, Kelly and Vigil launched ""CotE"" armed with knowledge of the obstacles and pitfalls of trying to make a new IP stick in 2018. In this short discussion, Kelly and Vigil share five key boxes every creator with transmedia aspirations needs to tick off before they launch. After all, it seems like everyone has a podcast these days--what they really need is a plan.
