RELIGIOUS AND PHILOSOPHICAL ASPECTS OF THE FULL METAL ALCHEMIST

Room 2505B (Lower Level)

Friday May 20, 2016 - 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Dr. Bruce W. Gentry, Instructor of Religion in the Department of Political Science, Philosophy, and Religion at Southeast Missouri State University, and Lydia Gentry will lead a discussion on the religious and philosophical themes in the anime series "Full Metal Alchemist" and "Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood." Edward and Alphonse Elric's quest to reunited with their original bodies and other character storylines presents the viewer with a number of religious and philosophical questions such as the ancient question of "What does it mean to be human?" Many other basic themes include community, sacrifice (including human), and the intriguing alchemy theme of equal exchange.
