When fandom is featured on the front page of The New York Times, highlighted on Buzzfeed and tumblr, the subject of a dozen pages in New York Magazine, covered by tv newscasts and YouTubers, basically invited into the White House, changes the world of publishing - both traditional and digital - and impacts copyright law’s relationship with art, music and film, what happens to the “traditional” fan community and the fanboys and fangirls that create the culture and the content? Are fanart, vids and fanfic fanfic something to be mocked, supported, enjoyed within an organic community or considered a stepping-stone to a creative career? What happens to fandomers and their community if they become both?
