In the mid 1950’s, a little studio in England called Hammer re-made a BBC serial called THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT (now called the XPERIMENT in honour of the restricted X category) and launched a successful two decades that saw them not only revive Gothic classics like FRANKENSTEIN and DRACULA, but also explore remakes of other classic horror films and adaptations of novels like J. Sheridan Le Fanu’s CARMILLA as THE VAMPIRE LOVERS. A celebration of a brief flowering of the fantastic at Hammer and the other competing small companies that sprang up the time.
