Science Slam is Vancouver’s most epic science showdown and it's coming to VCON! Watch scientists, researchers, students and nerds battle for the title of SciSlam Champion! Or sign up and see if you have what it takes to be the best science communicator!

Science Slam is a science communication competition similar to a poetry slam, but focused on science and featuring a wide range of speakers and styles. The Vancouver Science Slam team has been running slams in Vancouver for the past three years, and there have also been slams in Ottawa and Edmonton. Competitors, including students, educators and general Science enthusiasts, have 5 to 10 minutes to present on any Science topic and are judged based on communication skills, audience impact, and scientific accuracy.

For our VCON Slam we would like to gear the topics towards the Science of Speculative Fiction: What is the reproductive cycle of Godzilla? Which animals inspired the movie Alien? How are dragons evolutionarily related?

These are the kinds of things you could share, whether it’s your own passion or a scientific interest, this is your chance to share it with a live audience. No slideshows are allowed, but props and creative presentation styles are encouraged.
