So You Want to be a Writer – How to Get Started for Wordsmiths Aged Ten Through Sixteen

Hands-On Workshops (Steveston B)

Sunday October 7, 2018 - 1:00 pm to 2:20 pm

This combination workshop/discussion/blue pencil café is meant for all young writers who would like to see their work in publication. A panel of editors/writers will lay out the basics of short story and poetry marketing, including some of the hazards and pitfalls, as well as giving suggestions of youth-friendly markets, then will offer short, one on one critiques of writing samples. Young writers are encouraged to send in brief (up to around 1000 words) submissions in advance, but there may be time for even shorter pieces (up to 500 words) to be examined if they are brought in on the day of the workshop.
