Diversity in Speculative Fiction Media

Discussion around the importance, in all media formats, that speculative fiction includes protagonists with diverse characteristics going beyond the historical the norm of "heterosexual, neurotypical, physically fit, white male" hero. Why should we expect books, graphic novels, films and tv shows include realistic, empowered women, people of colour, LGBTQ*, neuro-atypical, physically disabled, or any other group outside that very narrow band? Panellists will recommend books, graphic novels, films, tv shows, games and more that "do diversity right".
