From Sherlock Holmes to Temperance Brennan, books, television and movies are littered with characters whose intelligence is paired with significantly repellent personalities or characteristics. Why is intelligence so consistently synonymous with unlikeable? Can an intelligent character get the guy or girl without sacrificing their role as "the smart one?"
